LGBTQIA

BHS celebrates our LGBTQ relationships, families, friends, and allies. We are committed to being a welcoming and inclusive community and to fostering a synagogue culture that highlights the rich diversity of the Brooklyn Jewish community. To further this commitment, BHS clergy and staff seek to create worship, religious school education, life-long learning, and social justice programs that reflect our values of inclusiveness and support of the LGBTQ community.

We believe that LGBTQ equality is a crucial issue of our time and believe that working towards this equality is part of the social action mission of the congregation as well as Reform Judaism today.

We strive to be a presence and connect to the larger Brooklyn LGBTQ community and as we offer specific LGBTQ programming we will post it on this page.

If you are in need of pastoral support regarding LGBTQ issues please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our clergy.

Pride Shabbat – Celebrated every June

All are welcome and encouraged to attend BHS’s Pride Shabbat: A celebration of our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer friends, families, and allies. We will begin the evening at 6:00pm with a little nosh and some wine, followed by 6:30pm candle lighting and services with a guest speaker to be announced later in the spring. Services will include a special liturgy that speaks to LGBTQ pride and acceptance led by Rabbi Serge Lippe and Cantor Ayelet Porzecanski. After services, we will continue our celebration with a festive oneg!
