Brooklyn Heights Group of Synagogue Youth
BHGSY is the official BHS youth group. BHGSY, our synagogue’s chapter of NFTY, is a peer-directed youth organization that not only aims to strengthen the bonds between BHS teens but also their ties to the larger synagogue community. BHGSY plans monthly events for its members, such as an all-Brooklyn scavenger hunt, pizza and ice cream parties and social action programs. Major annual events include organizing the synagogue-wide High Holiday canned food drive, the Interfaith Dinner, and leading the BHGSY Shabbat service. We have also joined fellow BHS members for the annual AIDS Walk fundraiser and gave back to the city we love by volunteering at the New York City Rescue Mission.
We know that many of our teens have hectic schedules but we hope to engage with our teens at as many events as that busy schedule will permit. Being a part of BHGSY is not only a fun way for teens to connect with their congregational peers but it is also an opportunity for leadership and community service. We welcome anyone to attend any of our weekly meetings on Thursdays at 6.30 pm in the Library.
