The caring sense of family and community that is central to our synagogue is reflected in  the philosophy and daily routines of our preschool.



Learning together in a warm and supportive community, students in our religious school from Kindergarten through Confirmation develop a deep knowledge of Judaism  and a personal connection to their heritage.

For the beginner or the scholar, single-session classes or year-long courses, history and culture or in-depth Torah study, lifelong learning at Brooklyn Heights Synagogue offers something for everyone.

ShelterOur volunteer-run homeless shelter has been part of the city’s emergency shelter network for 25 years.  We provide overnight hospitality and meals for 10 homeless women four nights a week, Thanksgiving -Passover.

Selichot - The Saturday evening before Rosh Hashanah is called Selichot - Penances.  Join us beginning at 8pm for Havdalah and snacks, followed at 9pm by a viewing of Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors.  After the film, Rabbi Lippe will lead a brief  discussion on the theme of "the Wages of Sin."  The Selichot service begins at 10:30 p.m. and concludes at midnight with the sounding of the shofar.

Andrew Cohen, a 2-year-old child of members of Temple Israel of New Rochelle, is currently a patient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  His treatment for Neuroblastoma requires regular blood and platelet transfusions. Andrew and his family would deeply appreciate your donation of blood and/or platelets and requests you ask others you know to donate. Donations not used by Andrew will be released for use by other patients many of whom are children.

To benefit Andrew Cohen all designated donations must be made in the Blood Donor Room of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The process for donating whole blood takes approximately 1 hour. The process for donating platelets takes about 2 ½ hours. Appointments are necessary and all blood types are acceptable. The Blood Donor Room is located at 1250 First Avenue (between 67th/68th Streets) NYC - Schwartz Building lobby and is open every day; Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm and on Tues/Wed/Thurs from 8:30 am - 7:00 pm. FREE Donor Parking is available located at Somerset Parking Garage, 1365 York Avenue –entrance on NW corner of 72nd Street.
